⚠️ Scam Alert: Fraudulent “Card Services” Calls & Texts
⚠️ Scam Alert: Fraudulent “Card Services” Calls & Texts - We’ve recently had multiple customers report suspicious texts and phone calls from individuals claiming to be from “card services.”
How the scam works:
- Customers receive a text message (sometimes appearing as “Chime”) asking about a specific purchase and amount.
- If the customer replies that they did not make the purchase, they receive a follow-up message stating that a representative will call them about possible fraud.
- The customer then receives a phone call from the scammer.
What the scammer asks for:
- Verification of the last 8 digits of the card number
- The customer’s full Social Security Number
- Later in the call, the first 8 digits of the card number
- ⚠️ This allows the scammer to collect the entire card number and SSN
Additional red flag:
- Scammers may tell customers not to contact the bank directly, claiming staff are under investigation—this is false and meant to create fear and urgency.
Important reminders:
- ❌ Our bank will never call or text asking for your full card number or full Social Security Number.
- ❌ Do not share sensitive information with unsolicited callers or texts.
- ✅ If you receive a suspicious message or call, hang up and contact your bank directly using a trusted number.
If you believe you’ve been targeted or shared information:
- Contact your bank immediately
- Monitor your accounts for unusual activity
- Consider placing a fraud alert on your credit report
Stay alert and help protect your personal and financial information.
